NEW DELHI, MAY 31. The combined live storage in 71 important reservoirs spread across the country is reported to be 13 per cent of the designed capacity as on May 28. The Central Water Commission monitors the live storage of these reservoirs, of which 27 have significant hydropower benefits with installed capacity of more than 60 MW each. The present storage is about 114 per cent of last year's storage and 78 per cent of the last 10 years' storage. Of these, there are 39 reservoirs in which the total storage is 80 per cent or less than the average of the previous 10 years. The basin-wise position is recorded to be better than the average of the previous 10 years in the Tapi and Mahi rivers of Kutch in Gujarat and the Mahanadi and the east-flowing rivers. It is 80 per cent or more than average of the previous 10 years in the Narmada and the west-flowing rivers of the south. The basin-wise storage is said to be less than 80 per cent of the average of the previous 10 years in the Ganga, Indus, Sabarmati, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and the neighbouring east-flowing rivers.
