KOZHIKODE, MAY 31. Binoy Viswom, MLA, has said that the public have a number of doubts about the proposed Expressway connecting the north and south of the State. In a statement here today, Mr. Viswom urged the Government to initiate urgent steps to dispel the doubts of those likely to lose their habitats and means of livelihood once the project was implemented. He wondered why there was undue haste in going ahead with the project when even its environment impact report was yet to be submitted. It is only natural that there would be a number of queries on the extent of land to be acquired and the compensation to be paid from those who are likely to be affected by the project. Mr. Viswom condemned the Government's stance that it was not for the public to question these aspects. The people are of the view that development is an issue that should be carried out in an overt manner. The benefits of the project should not be confined to those who would travel on it alone, he said. (The Minister for Public Works, M. K. Muneer, had said in Thiruvananthapuram recently that 100 km of the high-speed access controlled motorway (Expressway) would be commissioned by April 2006.)
