Two held, arms recovered

KOCHI May 31. Two persons were arrested with weapons from their house at Mannam near Paravur this evening. A police team led by the inspector and sub-inspector of Paravur police station raided the house of one Thajuddin, after they were tipped off about his alleged links with an extremist organisation. However, Thajuddin and a couple of his friends ran away. The police, who recovered a few swords, daggers and rounds from the house, picked up his father, Razak, 60, and younger brother, Nishad, 22.

Two motorists killed

Two youngsters were killed when their bike collided with a mini-lorry at Kodungassery near Nayarambalam this evening. Shibu, 22 (son of Stephen, Parakka Veettil, Pullootu, Kadungalloor), died on the spot and his pillion, Gireesh, 28 (son of Charukutty, Velanparambil Veettil, Elthuruthu, Kodungalloor), died on the way to hospital.

Corporation secretary gheraoed

A section of the Corporation staff today detained the Kochi Corporation secretary, C. E. Basheer, for allegedly promoting a junior officer over her senior. However, the tiff ended after the secretary cancelled the order.

Vacation programme ends

The two-month-long Vacation 2004 programme organised by the District Child Welfare Council came to an end at the Indira Priyadarshini Children's Park here this evening. Cine actor Jayasoorya was the chief guest on the occasion. Apart from variety entertainment programmes, there were many sporting events too for children. The last week of the programme concentrated on `back to school' theme.

MSW entrance examination

Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, has dispatched the hall tickets to all candidates who are taking the MSW entrance examination on June 6. Those who are still to get the hall ticket can contact the Entrance Examination cell of the university at 0484-2463583, said a university press release issued here today.
