Letters to the Editor
Sir, There are many who cite the provision in the U.S. Constitution to support their contention that only a natural born citizen should occupy a high public office. Conservative Republican and Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. Senate, Senator Orrin Hatch, has introduced an amendment to remove the `natural born citizen' requirement from the Constitution. It may take a long time to make this part of the Constitution but that it has been proposed is recognition of the fact that the provision is outdated.
