Dalmiya's denial

KOLKATA: The BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday denied any communication from the Indian Board to its South African counterpart that none of its cricketers would face any police action in connection with the match-fixing case, during their forthcoming tour.

Speaking to UNI, Mr. Dalmiya said, ``I am not aware of any such communication made by the Board. This is rubbish. Besides what is the Board's locus standi? How can we assure the South African Board regarding police matters?'' he asked.

The Springboks are scheduled to tour India in November this year.

The United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) had reportedly written to the BCCI seeking assurance that no police action would be taken against any South African cricketer — mainly Herschelle Gibbs and Nicky Boje — in connection with the match-fixing scandal in 2000. — UNI
