HYDERABAD, JUNE 2. The Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, Y.C. Simhadri, was roughed up by some dismissed employees of the university in the Assembly premises here today. Dr. Simhadri and the Principal Secretary of Higher Education, G. Sudhir, were waiting for their car at the alighting point after a meeting with the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, did not materialise. The dismissed employees, who were carrying the struggle for reinstatement under the banner of the Joint Action Committee for Protection of Andhra University, pounced upon them. While Dr. Simhadri was physically attacked, Mr. Sudhir managed to escape the wrath of the employees by driving away in his car. The Vice-Chancellor walked all around the premises as the aggressors followed him. The staff of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDLP) office virtually drove him out when he sought shelter. A couple of policemen came to his rescue and summoned a Rakshak vehicle and provided him safe passage.
