VISAKHAPATNAM, JUNE 2. The Senior Scientist of the Chennai-based Central Leather Research Institute, J. Raghava Rao, has been chosen for the annual award of the Burhani Foundation (India) National Environmental Engineering Research Institute this year. According to the assistant operating trustee of the BFI, Sheik Husain Akbari, the award carrying a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh and a citation by NEERI will be presented to Dr. Rao at a function to be held in Nagpur later this year. A panel of scientific advisers to the Government, eminent judges and lawyers, headed by the Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, R.A. Mashlekar, had chosen the awardee. Dr. Rao has been awarded "for his process modification technology in the leather tanning industry for better management of chromium through recovery/reuse and complete utilisation of chromium."
