Switzerland could be Maradona's next destination

BUENOS AIRES: Diego Maradona's drug rehabilitation will eventually move from Brazil to Switzerland for longer-term treatment, his lawyer said on Tuesday. The 43-year-old soccer great, in rehab at a pyschiatric hospital in Buenos Aires, is expected to be relocated for several weeks to a clinic outside of Sao Paulo, said Roberto Damboriana, a member of Maradona's legal team.

Maradona will remain at the Asociacion Promocional Oracion and Trabajo clinic in Campinhas, 100 km (60 miles) northwest of Sao Paulo, while awaiting a transfer to another hospital in Switzerland, Damboriana told Buenos Aires sports daily Ole.

Dr. Alfredo Cahe, Maradona's personal physician, has said Maradona appeared to be taking rehab seriously ``for the first time in his life.''

Maradona, an admitted cocaine addict, had been undergoing drug rehabilitation in Cuba for the last four years before he was hospitalised twice after returning to Argentina in April. — AP
