Students excel

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE . Well over 90 students of St. Mark's Senior Secondary Public School, Meera Bagh, have secured distinctions in all five subjects in the Class X All India Secondary School Examinations. The top scorers in the overall subjects included Bhavya Ahuja and Ashish Goyal, who scored an aggregate of 94.6 per cent and 94.4 per cent respectively. The five students who scored 100 per cent marks in maths included Aditya Gaba, Parul Gulati, Annu Malik, Tanvi Nayyar and Tushar Anand.

The Principal, Anjali Aggarwal, the Vice-Principal, V. Wahi, and the Headmistress, R. Sethi, congratulated the toppers and all successful students of their institution.

Plea to conserve environment

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE The Executive Vice-Chairman of Heart Care Foundation of India, K.K. Aggarwal, has appealed to the public to take a pledge to conserve the environment on World Environment Day that falls on June 5.

In a statement, Dr. Aggarwal said every person should strive to contribute towards an eco-friendly environment. He said this could be done by turning off the tap while brushing one's teeth, switching off the engine when the car is not running, taking a shower instead of a bath, using a fan rather than an air-conditioner, turning off the lights when not required and switching off the television when not in the room.


Education fair organised

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE To provide a platform for educators and students, a three-day annual education fair -- Aspirations 2004 -- was organised by the Arclights Eventz Network Private Limited and the Oriental Bank of Commerce this past week. The three-day fair gave students an opportunity to explore a large number of career opportunities. Many students from the neighbouring cities also visited the fair.

Apart from highlighting conventional career fields like the medicine and engineering, Aspirations 2004 also featured specialised fields like advertising, acting, animation, banking, bio-technology, call centre training, coaching institutes, computer training and defence forces.

Two electrocuted

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE Two persons were electrocuted in different parts of the Capital on Tuesday. In the first case, a 25-year-old man was electrocuted while cleaning the rooftop of Amba Cinema hall at Roop Nagar in North Delhi. A 20-year-old man, Kailash, came in contact of a live wire while he was drinking water from a tap at Mehrauli and died on the spot. He worked as a bus conductor.

Held for theft

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE Two Bangladeshi nationals allegedly involved in cases of theft were arrested at Samaipur Badli in North-West Delhi on Tuesday. Stolen goods worth Rs. 1 lakh was recovered from their possession.

The accused were going in two trolley rickshaws loaded with stolen goods when they were intercepted by the police and subsequently arrested. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in at least eight cases.

New appointment

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE Vimal Sharma has been appointed the new Additional Resident Commissioner of the Rajasthan Government in Delhi. He was earlier posted as the Deputy General Manager of the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited in New Delhi.

Programme for IIT aspirants

NEW DELHI JUNE 2 JUNE 2. JUNE FIITJEE Limited has launched a two-year integrated programme, Pinnacle, for IIT-JEE 2006 aspirants. The programme is available only in Delhi and the admission test will be held on June 13.

The programme, which has been launched in association with some leading schools of Delhi, is aimed at de-stressing students from an academic point of view and also giving them sufficient time for co-curricular activities.
