PMT paper leak accused appears before police

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JUNE 2. Sudheer Sachdeva, chairman of the Sachdeva New PT College who is allegedly involved in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) All India Pre-Medical Test (PMT) paper leak case, appeared before the Crime Branch of the Delhi police today after securing protection from arrest from the Orissa High Court. He was questioned for his role in the whole affair.

While the Crime Branch had been carrying out raids to arrest Sudheer, it is learnt that his father-in-law approached the police about two days ago and informed them that Sudheer was out of town for the past few weeks and would soon be available to assist them in the investigations in the paper leak case. Around 4 p.m. on Wednesday he suddenly showed up at the Qutub Institutional Area office of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and produced a court order preventing the police from arresting him.

After confirming his identity, the police went through the court order dated May 24 directing that in case Sudheer was arrested, he should be given bail immediately so that he could approach the court concerned in the Capital for regular bail within six weeks. After studying the order, the police decided not to arrest Sudheer and challenge it in the Supreme Court on Thursday instead.

Sudheer's alleged involvement in the paper leak case came to light after the Crime Branch arrested Hemant Sharma, an employee with the Confidential Branch of the CBSE, for allegedly leaking the papers and the coaching institute's administrative manager, N.K. Thaplu, for purchasing them.

During interrogation, Hemant purportedly disclosed that he had struck the deal for Rs. 50 lakhs with Thaplu in Sudheer's presence, following which the police launched a hunt for him. As he did not surrender, the police moved the court and obtained a non-bailable warrant issued against him. Still he did not show up, upon which the Crime Branch initiated proceedings to attach his properties.

Meanwhile, they raided Sudheer's office and recovered a floppy containing 200 questions of the PMT papers.
