THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 3 . The Federation of Residents Associations, Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT) has alleged that the introduction of electronic meters by the Kerala State Electricity Board had imposed a heavy financial burden on consumers. A press release quoting the FRAT general secretary, Punchakary Ravi, said consumers were forced to shell out up to 300 per cent additional tariff after the installation of the new meters. It said the move to introduce electronic meters was part of a hidden agenda to bypass the refusal of the Electricity Regulatory Authority to hike the power tariff and force the consumer to bear the burden of transmission loss. Urging the KSEB to withdraw the new meters and restore the original tariff rates, FRAT warned it would issue a call to residents to ignore the additional amount incurred on monthly bills.
