THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 3. Consumer awareness programmes would be strengthened in the State and an allocation of Rs. 1 crore has been made in the budget this year for strengthening the consumer movement in the State, the Civil Supplies Minister, G. Karthikeyan, has said. He was distributing the State Government's Rajiv Gandhi Consumer Activism awards here on Wednesday. Red tape at official level and interpretation of various laws should not stand in the way of giving justice to consumers, he said. Consumer awareness programmes would be extended to panchayats also, he added. The secretary of Thiruvananthapuram Confederation of Consumer Vigilance Centre, Ayyappan Nair, the secretary of Idukki District Consumers' Vigilance Forum, Manoharan and the secretary of Palakkad District Consumers' Association, Surendran, received the awards.
