Demand to drop Expressway project
By Our Staff Reporter
KOZHIKODE,
JUNE 3.
The State committee of the Samajwadi Jana Parishad has asked the State Government to shelve the proposed Expressway project.
The Parishad president, Vinod Payyada, said the Rs.25,000-crore project would be a colossal financial burden on the State. Such a burden would affect all sections of people. The project, which would benefit only the elite, should not be implemented. Most of those who would be vacated for the project would be from the lower strata of society. The Expressway would also curb the public's liberty of free travel, he said.
He alleged that the high-speed highway was being built to reach goods and services for the profit of multinational companies, and due to international pressure.
