MUMBAI, JUNE 4 . Spurred by robust trade and portfolio investment inflows, the rupee today scaled a new 25-day closing peak of Rs 45.12/13 a dollar and extended gains for the fifth straight session, as sentiment remained upbeat for further advances. Notching up yet another 12 paise gain from Thursday's finish of 45.24/25, the rupee looks all-set to breach the 45.04/06-dollar level logged at the close of trade on May 10, a forex dealer said. In fairly active trade at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened distinctly firm at 45.20/22 and hit the day's peak of 45.10/11, before settling at 45.12/13 a dollar. The rupee has appreciated by a whopping 35 paise this week. Renewed heavy foreign portfolio investment inflows and export proceeds continued to give the rupee strong underlying support, despite relatively firm global oil prices. PTI
