JUNE 4.
The wildlife warden of the sanctuary, V. Ganesan, told The Hindu that the squirrel, which measured two ft. is a protected animal under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and finds a place under part II and Schedule II of the Act.
The species is largely distributed in the hill forests of the peninsular India.
The squirrel was safely rescued from the University campus by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and was transported to the IGWLS.
It was let into the ideal habitat of moist deciduous forest patch adjoining the Karianshola national park near Topslip at IGWLS, Mr. Ganesan said.
