CHENNAI, JUNE 4. The Consortium of Self-Financing Professional, Arts and Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu, recently authorised to hold a common entrance test (CET) to fill up engineering seats under the management quota, has formed a five-member expert committee to initiate and complete the examination process. The consortium has, however, expressed reservations about accepting in toto the orders of the Permanent Committee for the Conduct of Common Entrance Test, headed by Justice S.S. Subramani. On June 2, the committee permitted the consortium to hold the CET but said counselling and admission should be done only through the single-window system and under its supervision at every stage. Addressing mediapersons here today, the consortium president, Jeppiar, said the former All-India Committee for Technical Education Chairman, S. Rame Gowda; a retired civil servant, Daniel Gunanidhi; the former Bharatiar University Vice-Chancellor, S. Subramanian; the former AICTE advisor, B.G. Sangameswara; and the former Director of Technical Education, S. Varadarajan, had been nominated to oversee the CET process.
Meeting to finalise points
Though he said the consortium did have some reservations about the permanent committee's orders, Mr. Jeppiar declined to elaborate on the disagreement. The panel's order was being studied and the consortium would approach it seeking clarifications on certain doubts in the order. "We will seek clarifications from the committee on certain conditions it imposed on the consortium." A meeting would be convened in the next few days to finalise the points to be raised before the committee.
Exam between July 15 and 20
Making clear that the consortium had accepted the committee's mandate to conduct a separate entrance examination for the management quota, Mr. Jeppiar said it would be held between July 15 and 20.
