By Our Staff Correspondent
HASSAN, JUNE 4. The Hassan district units of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) have organised a round-table conference of elected representatives, parents of students, representatives of educational institutions, and educational experts here on Saturday. The round-table will discuss the issue of continuance of the pre-university section of the Government Science College which is facing the threat of being closed because of lack of infrastructure. In a joint press release, leaders of DYFI and SFI have appealed to the people to participate in the meeting and extend support to the students who may be forced to discontinue their studies because of Government apathy. The conference will be held at the Centenary Hall of Government High School on Race Course Road, the release said. The students of economically backward classes were facing problems for the past one year with the bifurcation of the pre-university college from the composite science college. Some parents regretted that the authorities concerned had not shown interest in providing infrastructure necessary for conducting classes, including appointing teachers to the pre-university section. As a result, the students were forced to seek admission in private colleges which were demanding huge donations, they said. The leaders of DYFI and SFI alleged that a decision had been taken to close down the pre-university section and that the Government had not taken any interest in safeguarding the interests of students.
Meet
The district units of SFI and DYFI have organised a meeting of employees who were removed from service by the Government to comply with the direction of the Supreme Court on the rural weightage issue on Sunday. The secretary of the Rural Weightage Employees' Action Committee, S.N. Umesh, said in a release here on Friday that the "Bangalore Chalo" programme had been organised to draw the attention of the Government to the plight of employees who lost their jobs.
