Wilson Cherian to coach at RSC

KOCHI, JUNE 4. With its swimmers sparkling at the recent Kerala State junior and sub-junior championships in Thiruvananthapuram, the Regional Sports Centre has decided to rope in the services of former international Wilson Cherian for some intensive coaching at its pool here.

"I'll be visiting Kochi for some short camps. The first camp will probably start in July, after the Junior National," said Arjuna Awardee Wilson, an Assistant Sports Officer with the Southern Railways in Chennai.

The RSC's Yasmin Mary Jose and Amala Rita Jose broke the Kerala junior 50 m breast-stroke record, in two different age-groups at the recent State meet. Yasmin and Gautham A. Kishan also won the individual championship in their respective age groups, said the RSC secretary S.A.S. Navaz here on Friday.

V.T. Prasannan, an NIS coach, has been training children at the RSC the last two years and has produced some stunning results. "Wilson's presence will further strengthen the camp," said Mr Navaz. — Our Sports Reporter
