Spot the `smoker bus,' win prize

BANGALORE, JUNE 5. People who alert the State road transport authorities about buses emitting smoke from their exhausts will be given cash prizes.

The KSRTC Managing Director, V. Madhu, told presspersons here today that people noticing a bus emitting smoke should dial the control rooms of the BMTC or the KSRTC. "The person should give the registration number of the vehicle and also his contact address and telephone number. If the caller is found to be right, he will be given a cash prize of Rs. 100."

He said this measure to involve people in checking pollution had been in vogue for three years. "This is yet to gain popularity among the public. The KSRTC is now thinking of increase the prize amount by Rs. 100," he said.

People can call the KSRTC and BMTC control rooms by dialling 22255720 or 22871945 and 22952522, 22952422 or 9844098194, respectively.
