YSR meets ryots forced to sell kidney

HYDERABAD, JUNE 5: Farmers from Guntur who sold their kidneys to clear agricultural loans were introduced to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, by a delegation of the CPI on Friday with a request to release of Rs. one lakh ex gratia to each.

Twenty-four distressed farmers from Renti Chintala and Kambhampadu villages in the district had sold their kidneys.

They had to resort to the step due to pressure from the moneylenders to repay the loan.
