Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, JUNE 5. The All India Students Federation will stage cycle jathas from June 8 to 10 with a view to infusing confidence among farmers and motivating them to refrain from committing suicide. The AISF district president, N. Narasimhulu, the Secretary, G. Chandra, and the joint secretary, K.C. Badullah, told a press conference here that the cycle jathas would be taken up at Cuddapah, Proddatur, Pulivendula, Rayachoti, Badvel, Rajampet and Nandalur mandals for three days. Farmers would be enlightened that their woes would not end by committing suicide, but that they should settle their problems with confidence and by waging a struggle, they said. The lopsided policies of the Chandrababu Naidu Government drove farmers into debts, they alleged. The Rajasekhara Reddy Government granted free power supply, waived power dues and announced moratorium on bank loans to provide succour to the ryots, they stated. They sought strict vigilance against spurious seeds, fertilisers and pesticides and supply of qualitative inputs on subsidy. Turning their attention to the education sector, they flayed some corporate colleges for doing away with vacations. The educational officials were indifferent to the students' plight, they alleged. Accusing some private schools and colleges of exaggerating their achievements, they urged the parents and students to be wary of such dubious claims.
