THRISSUR, JUNE 5 . A 30-year-old scooterist was killed when he accidentally came into contact with a snapped live electric line at Chelakkottukara, near the Mission Quarters area in the outskirts of the city, in the wee hours of Saturday. The police identified the victim as Thekkemadhom Radhakrishnan alias Sajiv of Eravimangalam. Mr. Sajiv was employed as a milkman and was on his way to work when the accident occurred. The electric line had snapped after a tree fell on it. According to reports, Mr. Sajiv was thrown off from the vehicle in the impact of the shock.
Low-lying areas inundated
Meanwhile, several low-lying areas in the city and in other parts of the district were inundated as incessant rain lashed the district. Traffic was thrown out of gear as roads were blocked with flood water and uprooted trees. A report from Mukundapuram said two persons were injured when their house collapsed partially in the rain at Elanjipra. The family was shifted to a safer place. The coastal areas face the threat of sea erosion also. A report received here late evening said a 50-year old man was found dead in an unprotected well at Kundukad in the district. The police gave the name of the victim as Kundukad Kurien. He was missing since last night. The district authorities have opened control rooms in the headquarters and in the five taluks here. The District Collector, V.M. Gopala Menon, has appealed to the public to inform the authorities of the losses caused by the rain fury.
