KOZHIKODE, JUNE 5. The KPCC general secretary, K.C. Abu, has said that those criticising the UDF convener, Oommen Chandy, for the latest `goonda attack' on Congress leaders at the venue of Thursday's KPCC executive meeting have their eyes on his chair. Talking to presspersons along with the Congress leader, N.P. Moideen, here today, Mr. Abu, in an apparent reference to the former Minister, K. Muraleedharan, said that certain leaders always wanted some positions. ``If they face the elections, they would be defeated. The safest position one could get now without getting an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the public is the chair of UDF liaison committee convener,'' they said. Mr. Abu demanded that the Congress high command take stringent action gainst those who indulged in violence. ``Now we don't want a package (to rehabilitate leaders in certain positions), but a packing in the party,'' he said. Mr. Moideen said the most pathetic situation that called for urgent corrective steps was the criminalisation of politics. ``Whoever encourages criminals in the State Congress should be punished.''
