KANNUR, JUNE 5. Four Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers and a National Development Front (NDF) worker were injured in clashes between the two groups near Iritty here today. The police said the incidents of violence followed an attack on a NDF worker, identified as C.P. Faisal (20), by an RSS activist, identified as M. Chandran, at Narayanpara, under the Mattannur police station limits at 6 p.m. on Friday. He has been admitted to the Government Hospital at Mattannur. In an apparent act of retaliation, a local RSS worker, P. Suresh (22), was stabbed by an eight-member group led by a local NDF worker, identified as Yusuf, at the nearby Padikkachal, under the Iritty police station limits at 9-30 a.m today. The police said the assailants reached the spot in a jeep. The injured has been admitted to the Government Hospital at Thalassery. The same group of assailants damaged an autorickshaw and attacked its driver, M. Prasad, a BJP-RSS sympathiser, at Narayanpara in the morning. They also attacked the BJP-RSS sympathisers, Ragnesh (25) and Pramod, at Narayanpara. Ragnesh has been admitted to the Government hospital here. Police personnel were deployed in the areas in view of the tension following the outbreak of clashes.
