JAIPUR, JUNE 5. The newly-inducted Rajasthan Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Digambar Singh, has announced that the State Government will encourage participation of the private sector in the drive for population stabilisation as well as the family welfare programmes. The Government has launched a scheme for paying cash rewards to private health clinics and non-government organisations for carrying out sterilisation operations. Under the scheme, Rs. 400 will be given for each vasectomy operation and Rs. 75 for each installation of intra-uterine devices. According to the Minister, the family welfare programme would be improved with emphasis on better availability of services. He noted that tubectomy through leproscopy was very popular among women in the rural areas.
