NEW DELHI JUNE 5. The National Thermal Power Corporation has won the Enterprise Excellence Award instituted by the Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering in the power sector category for its financial and operational strength for the year 2002-2003.

The award, consisting of a golden shield and a certificate, was presented by P.V.R.K. Prasad, Director-General of Dr. Marrichennareddy Human Resources Development Institute of Andhra Pradesh and Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad, to K.K. Sinha, Director (HR) of NTPC, in Hyderabad on Friday.

Dairy relocation drive opposed

NEW DELHI JUNE 5. Pathik Sena, an organisation fighting for the cause of dairy owners, has opposed the Delhi Government's relocation plan for illegal dairies in the Capital. At a press conference here, it demanded creation of a Special Dairy Zone in each of the Capitals nine districts.

"We will strongly oppose the Delhi Government's move to relocate all the dairies which they term as illegal," said Mukhia Gujjar, president of Pathik Sena, referring to the reported decision of the Administration to find land at one location on the outskirts of the city.

Arguing that shifting of all dairies to one place would cause a lot of inconvenience to dairy owners and consumers, Yogesh Datta, vice-president of Pathik Sena, said the only solution was to relocate the dairies in the areas where they already existed.

Releasing a seven-point charter of demands, Mr. Gujjar called for a fresh survey of the dairies in the Capital. Contesting the Government's figure that there were 2,700 illegal dairies, he said about 50,000 dairies were running in Delhi.

"We are doing an important social service, but we are being crushed by the administration," he complained. He also demanded a new dairy policy for Delhi.

Construction of new bridge

NEW DELHI JUNE 5. The Delhi Government has entrusted the responsibility of constructing a new bridge at Wazirabad to the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).

Stating that the existing bridge at Wazirabad was an important link between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the Urban Development Minister, A.K. Walia, said the volume of traffic had increased so much over the years that the bridge was unable to cope with it leading to bottlenecks. Also, the increase in population in the trans-Yamuna area had led to the mushrooming of new colonies and there was an urgent need to construct a new bridge.

He instructed the DTTDC officials to immediately appoint a consultant so that the construction of the new bridge could be started forthwith after conducting the necessary studies.
