Plea to stop privatisation of Auto Cast

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, JUNE 5. The CITU general secretary, P.K. Gurudasan, has called upon the State Government to drop all moves to privatise Auto Cast, the public sector undertaking in Cherthala.

In a statement here Mr. Gurudasan said that while the company performed well for 20 years, during the past three years it was in a crisis. Failure on the part of the United Democratic Front Government to maintain the promises made in the industrial policy was the prime reason for the plight of the company. Neither have public sector undertakings in the State been extended financial help nor is the Government ready to give guarantee for availing bank loans.

It was on the basis of the R.C. Chaudhary Commission Report that the UDF Government was now taking steps to privatise the company.

The stand that Auto Cast cannot be revived is baseless. It was on the very day when a revival programme was submitted to the Chief Minister that the decision to privatise the company had been arrived at, he alleged.
