THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 5. The Superintendent of the Medical College hospital, N. Viswanathan, has said that he imposed a ban on the holding of press conferences by political leaders inside the hospital as this was creating a lot of disturbance to other patients and disrupting staff in their normal work. Dr. Viswanathan said that he was responsible for maintaining the hospital discipline and that the constant stream of camera teams and visitors inside the hospital could not be allowed to go on for days together. He clarified that he had not given instructions to restrict media persons visiting Saratchandra Prasad or Rajmohan Unnithan, who are convalescing at the hospital. Mr. Prasad has been shifted to the ICU after he complained of chest pain and high blood pressure. However, doctors had, after examination, offered to discharge Mr. Unnithan. Mr. Unnithan and his supporters had later alleged that he was being discharged upon instructions from Mr. Muraleedharan. Dr. Viswanathan said he had been offering the advice of a doctor when he said that Mr. Unnithan could be discharged.
