HYDERABAD, JUNE 5. Senior Congress leader, M. Baga Reddy, was cremated with State honours at his Thamballapalli village, four km from Zaheerabad town, in Medak this afternoon. His eldest son, Jaipal Reddy, lit the pyre. According to information reaching here, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, APCC president and Rural Development Minister, D. Srinivas, and Tourism Minister, J. Geeta Reddy, attended the funeral. Dr. Reddy placed a wreath on the body. The Medak MP and Union Minister of State for Rural Water Supply, A. Narendra, was also present. Baga Reddy was seven times MLA and four times MP. The Minorities Welfare Minister and local MLA, Fareeduddin, Congress MLAs, G. Chinna Reddy, A. Indrakaran Reddy, Sunita Laxma Reddy and Suresh Shetkar, Janata Party MLA, P. Sashidhar Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson, Sunita Patil, former Minister, C. Mutyam Reddy, and former CPI MLA, C. Vittal Reddy, were among others present. District Collector, Anil Kumar Singhal, Superintendent of Police, Devender Singh Chauhan, and senior other officers represented the district administration. Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said the State Government would consider renaming the Singur project supplying drinking water to the State capital after Baga Reddy. The Government was prepared to take up whatever activity to perpetuate his memory. Dr. Reddy paid tributes to the departed leader. The Speaker said his services were worthy of emulation. Thousands of people bid a tearful farewell to Baga Redddy during the funeral procession.
