CHANDAMPET (NALGONDA DT.), JUNE 5. Naxalites of the People's War (PW) blasted the Bank of India's Pedda Munigal branch in Chandampet mandal in the early hours of Saturday. Fifteen members of the Sagar Area Committee descended on the bank premises situated in a building owned by one Yugandhar Reddy and ordered an elderly woman, who was residing in a room adjacent to the bank, to vacate the place, according to villagers. Later they planted explosives in the building and blasted it from a safe distance. The blast reduced the five-room building to rubble and the loss was put at Rs. 5 lakhs. A couple of bank officials from Hyderabad rushed to the spot and filed a complaint with the Chandampet police. Quoting the complainant, Captain Amarjeet Singh, the local Sub-Inspector, Sashank Reddy, said the records and furniture were completely damaged. "No loss of currency was reported,'' the SI said. A villager, however, said he had seen some currency notes under the debris. The naxalites left a long letter with the elderly woman, who in turn handed over it to the Mandal Revenue Officer. "As the Congress Government is also going the TDP way, we will continue attacks on Congress leaders. A police party in garb of a cultural troupe opened fire on a naxalite party (at Ajmapur village in P.A. Pally mandal on May 31), which was having its dinner after participating in the gram sabha,'' the PW said.
