Unbeaten century by Tanmay

By Our Sports Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 5. Tanmay Srivastav's unbeaten 166 helped Central Zone dictate terms to East Zone in the Col. Hemu Adhikari Memorial Inter Academy tournament match in progress at the WAP Ground here on Saturday.

On the second day, Tanmay's knock (166 n.o., 352b, 18 x 4) guided Central past East's 174 and also lent enough strength for his team to declare at 378 for six in 115 overs. Central's lead of 204 did unnerve the East batsmen in their second innings and predictably a tentative opener Partha Bhattacharjee was caught at gully off seamer Avinash Yadhav. At close, East mustered 10 for one in its second innings and needs 195 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Meanwhile at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, South Zone rode high as Gautam Reddy extended his overnight 81 to 109 (314b, 15 x 4) and the tail chipped in with cameos. South scored 340 and in reply, North Zone scored 81 for no loss as openers Karan Goel (26 n.o.) and Shikar Dhawan (49 n.o.) stayed firm before fading light and a persistent drizzle forced an early closure of play.

At the IAF Ground, West Zone slumped to 166 for seven in its second innings after Mahesh Rawat's 66 had put Combined Zone on course for a 79-run first innings lead. Combined Zone scored 238 while left arm spinner Dhaval Parab bagged six wickets.

The scores:

East Zone 174 in 69.1 overs and 10 for one in five overs vs Central Zone 378 for six decl. in 115 overs (Tanmay Srivastav 166 n.o., Piyush Chawla 73, Ravikant Shukla 55, Ali Murtaza 27).

South Zone 340 in 135.4 overs (Gautam Reddy 109, Anirudh Srikkanth 58, Jonathan 43, Gopinath 26, Ryan Ninan 26, Mandeep Singh three for 69) vs North Zone 81 for no loss in 13 overs (Shikar Dhawan 49 n.o., Karan Goel 26).

West Zone 159 in 53.4 overs and 166 for seven in 49.2 overs (Rohit Sharma 68, Anand Singh 30 n.o., Pinal Shah 27) vs Combined Zone 238 in 75.3 overs (Mahesh Rawat 66, Alfred Absolum 37, Dhaval Parab six for 81).
