Hazarika quits politics

GUWAHATI, JUNE 5. The noted singer-writer-filmmaker turned politician, Bhupen Hazarika, is bidding adieu to politics, saying the world of music and arts beckoned him.

In a four-paged statement issued here on Friday, he said: "I leave this beautiful world full of opportunity, faith, hope and trust to all you people out there young, middle-aged and old to carry on the flaming torch of patriotism and idealism for our beloved country India and our beloved State Assam.''
