NEW DELHI, JUNE 5. The External Affairs Ministry spokesman said tonight that the "purported remarks" attributed to the External Affairs Minister, Natwar Singh, in certain magazines had been "taken completely out of context" and did not reflect the "well-articulated views of the Dr. Manmohan Singh Government." In a statement, the spokesman said the Ministry had seen the interviews with Mr. Singh in certain magazines attributing remarks regarding the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, to the External Affairs Minister. "I am authorised to say that the purported remarks have been taken completely out of context and do not reflect the well-articulated views of the Dr. Manmohan Singh Government," he said. "We are committed to having the closest relations with our neighbours, particularly Pakistan. The External Affairs Minister has just returned from Nepal after a highly successful visit, contrary to the impression being created by such reports." "We hold the leadership of Pakistan and all our friends in the highest esteem," he added.
