CHENNAI, JUNE. 5. Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu will meet the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, on June 7 or 8 to impress on him the need for talking to Karnataka so as to "create conditions congenial to begin farming operations here." A meeting of the constituents of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) here today also decided to send a delegation to call on the Karnataka Chief Minister on June 10, seeking his cooperation in preventing recurrence of crop loss and suicide by farmers witnessed in the past few years. The former Public Works Department Minister, Durai Murugan of the DMK will head the delegation. The other representatives are G.K.Vasan (Congress), G.K. Mani (PMK), L. Ganesan (MDMK), T.K. Rengarajan (CPI-M), R. Nallakannu (CPI) and Khader Mohideen (IUML). Today's meeting discussed the problems the farmers would face in the event of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal not being approved. Answering questions later, M. Karunanidhi, DMK chief, said the two resolutions were adopted seeking to speed up a decision on the Cauvery issue. On the Chief Minister writing to the Prime Minister to convene the Cauvery River Authority, he said if it supplemented the DPA's efforts, it would be welcome. To a query whether the idea of water release would be acceptable to the coalition government in Karnataka, he said one should ask this question at the Chamundeeswari temple in Mysore. Asked whether the DPA would talk to the former Prime Minister, Deve Gowda, Mr. Karunanidhi said the Press was coming up with many suggestions. "But our resolution is limited. Had you also been a member of the DPA, you could have put forth this suggestion."
