By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, JUNE 5. Giving concrete shape to the measures required for protecting our environment was the responsibility of each and every citizen and not the duty of a chosen few, was the opinion of the speakers at the World Environment Day celebrations in Guntur on Saturday. At a function organised by the A.P. Pollution Control Board, and the Mayor Chukka Yesuratnam, gave a call to people and students in particular to improve awareness on need for protecting our environment by all means. While planting trees was shown as one of the ways to improve the air quality, proper maintenance of vehicles for reducing carbon monoxide levels in the atmosphere was stressed. The A.P. Pollution Control Board in association with the National Green Corps had conducted several competitions for the high school students in the city and the winners were given away prizes. The APPCB Environmental Engineer, R. Lakshmi Naryan, welcomed the gathering and appreciated the quality of essays and paintings by students, which showed high level of understanding about environmental protection among children.
