COIMBATORE, JUNE 5 . The Organisation for Social Awareness and Illumination (OSAI) launched a signature campaign in the city today urging authorities to take steps to protect the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve (NBR). OSAI plans to collect one-lakh signatures from the public and submit it along with a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister and the Union Minister for Environment and Forests. "The campaign will conclude on August 15," the Organiser of OSAI, Avvai Nayagan said. The Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, Vanitha Mohan, inaugurated the campaign. To mark the World Environment day, members of the Green Youth Foundation took out a rally in the city. The District Forest Officer, P. Durairasu, flagged off the rally at the office of the Conservator of Forests.
