BANGALORE, JUNE 5. Jharkhand booked a slot in the junior women's hockey National tournament quarterfinals with an emphatic 9-0 win over Tamil Nadu on Saturday. With two wins in Pool H, the last year's runner-up has thus far been undefeated. Haryana too made the last eight with a 3-1 win over Madhya Pradesh in pool D. Jharkhand began strongly with a series of raids on Tamil Nadu's citadel. Inger Mona, Tamil Nadu's goal-keeper showed fine reflexes, blocking a number of shots. But Jharkhand's relentless efforts paid off with Guddi Kumari converting her team's third penalty corner. Tamil Nadu's resistance caved in after that. The fifth penalty corner was also productive with Sushila Lakra scoring in the 15th minute. Seema Kujur directed home Jharkhand's first field goal in the 17th minute with a timley deflection off a cross from Asunta Lakra. Jharkhand's game plan was to earn as many penalty corners as possible and Asunta slotted the fourth goal in the 23rd minute. In the two minutes before the interval, Jharkhand scored twice through Amrita Minz (33rd) and Asunta (34th). The second half saw only three goals being scored by Jharkhand. Guddi completed her brace in the 48th minute, while Asunta converted a penalty corner in the very next minute. Seema Kujur enhanced the tally for Jharkhand, scoring off a combined move with Guudi. Jharkhand has scored 26 goals in the tournament in two matches and is yet to concede a goal till now. Host Karnataka opened its campaign with a 6-0 win over Vidarbha. T.N. Sowmya proved to be the penalty corner specialist, scoring in the ninth and 26th minutes. K.K. Krithika also impressed, converting the ninth and 11th penalty corners. M.R. Lekha (12th) and A.K. Sindhu (69th) were the other scorers for Karnataka. Haryana was the third team to reach the quarterfinals after its second win in Pool D. After an unproductive first half, Haryana scored with Minni splitting the MP defence and scoring seven minutes after the break. Madhya Pradesh levelled scores in the next minute, Priti Pillay being the scorer. But a brace by Shailaja (53rd and 56th) ensured a quarterfinal slot for Haryana. Haryana had defeated Chhattisgarh in the first league encounter.
