Nutrine AITA tournament from Monday

CHENNAI, JUNE 5. The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, under the auspices of AITA, will conduct the first leg of the second Nutrine Naturo-AITA under-14 (Championship Series) and under-12 (Talent Series) tournament from June 7 to 12 at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium.

The tournament will then move to Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Mumbai. After the end of the sixth leg, the Masters (Super Series) will be held in Bangalore in December. The events are under-14 boys' and girls' singles and doubles and boys' and girls' under-12 singles.

Addressing media persons here on Friday, Tournament Director, Hiten Joshi, said that the top players such as Vinay Kamineni (AP), David Raj (AP), local players Shriram Balaji and V. Sudarsan (both TN) would take part in the boys' under-14 section, and Janaki S. Rao (AP), Lithika Devraj (Kar) will add colour to the girls' under-14.

Tamil Nadu lads Rishab Dev and R. Vigneshwaran will participate in the boys' under-12 section. The girls under-12 category will see Lithika Devraj (Kar) and Gauma Vatwani (Del) and Shruti Bhavani (TN) in action. The main draw begins on June 9.

P. Narasimhan, chief referee, said the best three results of the six legs would be taken for the seedings for the Masters. B.L. Venkateshwar, Senior Vice-President, Nutrine Confectionery Company Pvt. Ltd., spoke about the company's plans to attract talents from smaller towns with the help of TNTA at "a later stage."

The winners of the Masters (both under-14 and 12) will be personally sponsored by V. Dinesh Reddy, Director, Nutrine Confectionery Company Pvt. Ltd., to witness the Australian Open 2004. M.P. Shankar, Secretary, TNTA, also spoke on the occasion. — Our Sports Reporter
