Cement Corporation unit seeks sops

ADILABAD, JUNE 5. A delegation of the Adilabad unit of the Cement Corporation of India, led by the Adilabad MLA, C. Ramchander Reddy, will meet the Industry Secretary on Monday seeking various concessions as part of the unit's revival proposals on the advice of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, whom the delegation met on June 3 at Lake View Guesthouse in Hyderabad

Briefing newsmen in this regard, the CCI Employees Union president, T. Rajanna, and the general secretary, S. Vilas, said a proposal for waiver of interest amounting to nearly Rs. 19 crores had been submitted to the Chief Minister. Similarly, the proposal also sought re-scheduling of payment of the principal loan about of Rs. 16 crores and a five-year sales tax holiday after the factory restarts production.

The union leaders pointed out that the levy of Rs. 10 crores as tariff at minimum charge and another Rs. 10 crores as penal interest by the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited though the factory remained shut since 1998 was unfair. The delegation also comprised of the Chintalapalli CPI MLA, B. Demudu, and P.J. Chandrasekhar, deputy general secretary of AITUC. The CCIEU deputy general secretary, T. Marianna, the senior vice president, A. Kishtu and A. Niranjan Rao, also attended the press conference.
