Accused put on trial

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JUNE 5. Delhi court today prima facie found enough material on record to send up architect Arnold Harvey for trial. He had allegedly tried to kill his event manager wife in Safdarjung Enclave here this past March suspecting her fidelity.

Framing the charges of attempt-to-murder (Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code), wrongful confinement (342) and causing disappearance of evidence (201), the Additional Sessions Judge, J.M. Malik, said: "ere is enough material on record for sending up the accused person on trial.''

The trial will begin on August 19 with recording of statements by prosecution witnesses.

Kirpa, a domestic help of Harvey, would also face trial for the same charges, the Judge said.

However, Mr. Malik granted bail to Harvey when his estranged wife, Arti Arora, informed the court through an application that they had made it up.

"he accused be released on bail on his furnishing a bail bond of Rs. 10,000 with one surety of a like amount,'' the Judge said.

On March 1, Harvey had allegedly shot at Ms. Arora with his airgun, tried to strangle her and later dumped her in the boot of his Honda City car thinking her to be dead and then driven the car to the outskirts of the city to dispose her of.

But Ms. Arora somehow managed to get out of the boot, went to a nearby fuel filling station and from there she informed the police on telephone.
