Juveniles arrested for thefts

NEW DELHI, JUNE 5. Four juveniles allegedly involved in cases of burglary and theft have been arrested from Sarojini Nagar in South-West Delhi. A large amount of allegedly stolen cash and jewellery have been recovered by the police at their instance.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi), Deependra Pathak, several cases of burglary were reported recently from different parts of the district, which led the police to probe the possibility of a link between these incidents. Investigations indicated that a gang of juveniles could be involved in the burglaries.

Because most of the burglaries were reported from Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Laxmibai Nagar and other nearby places, the police mounted a search operation in these areas. On Friday, they spotted four boys roaming in a Sarojini Nagar park under suspicious circumstances and detained them for interrogation. The four confessed to their involvement in cases of burglary. At their instance, the police recovered cash, jewellery, camera, mobile phone and other articles.

The accused, who are 9 to 13 years in age, further revealed that on May 29, they stole Rs. 1.2 lakhs and jewellery from the house of a government servant, Shikha Dass, at Netaji Nagar. On May 18, they barged into the house of an Intelligence Bureau officer and stole the valuables. All the four were produced in a Juvenile Court today.
