Flood-control rooms opened

MANGALORE, JUNE 5. The Dakshina Kannada district administration has set up flood-control rooms to prevent loss of life and property during heavy rain.

An official press release here said the control rooms had been set up as the southwest monsoon had intensified after a gap of few days.

The control rooms set up on the Deputy Commissioner's office and the taluk office premises on Saturday would function round-the-clock. They would help people in distress, collate information on all aspects pertaining to the southwest monsoon and coordinate with the authorities concerned in relief works.

The phone numbers of the control rooms are as follows: Deputy Commissioner's office (2420519 and 2420550) and control room 1077; Mangalore taluk office 2420187; Bantwal taluk office 232120; Puttur taluk office 620349; Sullia taluk office 600330; and Belthangady taluk office 302042.

People may also call the following numbers during emergencies: Home Guards, Mangalore 2423829; Fire Services, Mangalore 2423333 and 101; District Police Control Room 2441717 and 100; and city corporation control room 2456557.

The press release requested people seeking help to furnish their full address indicating the nature of assistance required and the extent of damage.
