MANGALORE, JUNE 5. The Mayor, K. Diwakar, has said that the State Government has imposed the project aided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to improve civic amenities on the city corporation. Participating in a World Environment Day function organised by the Dakshina Kannada Parisarasakta Okkoota here on Saturday, he said the Government had not take the corporation into consideration while finalising the loan agreement. Mr. Diwakar's remarks came as a rejoinder to the observations made by N. Yogish Bhat, MLA, who alluded that the civic body was lax in ensuring that the project, especially the work on the underground drainage system, was implemented in a proper manner. Noting that he was one among those who had opposed the implementation of the project at its conceptual stage, Mr. Diwakar said the authorities concerned had brushed aside opposition to its implementation. Urging the people of the city to be united in ensuring the quality of the works under the project, he said maintaining the underground drainage system in the city, given its peculiar topography, was difficult.
