TIRUCHI, JUNE 5. The district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam have opposed the recent restrictions imposed by the police on town buses operating on the Central bus stand Thillai Nagar or Woraiyur Chathiram bus stand routes. The police had directed these buses to take a diversion near the Teppakulam Post Office and go through West Boulevard Road instead of going up to the Chathiram Bus Stand. G. Rathinavelu, CPI(M) district secretary, said this decision would affect residents of Thillai Nagar, Puthur and Woraiyur. Many important government offices including the Collectorate and the Corporation could be reached only through these buses. He urged the traffic authorities to withdraw the move. S.T. Rajendran, district organiser, Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, said buses from Thuraiyur, Ariyalur, Jayamkondam, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Musiri, Neyveli, Lalgudi, Samayapuram and Manachanallur used the Chathiram bus stand as the terminus. Thousands of commuters, who use these buses, would now be forced to walk over a kilometre to board town buses operating on the Thillai Nagar and Woraiyur routes.
