GIDA to seek legal opinion on land sale

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, JUNE 5. The Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) has decided to seek the advice of the Legal Department for the sale of its reclaimed land. The 14th annual general meeting of GIDA held at Edavanakkad grama panchayat building ahead of the formal inauguration of the Goshree bridges, decided not to make any hasty move with regard to the sale of the reclaimed land.

The GIDA has put up 53.54 acres of reclaimed land for sale to meet the expenses of the triple bridges that connect the mainland with the islands of Bolgatty, Vallarpadam and Vypeen.

There have been bidders for three plots occupying 13 acres of the saleable land.

Today's meeting, which witnessed strong arguments for and against the sale in the present condition, decided to find a solution to the matter in two weeks after considering the legal opinion. Another meeting of the general council will be convened after two weeks to reach a consensus.

The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, who is also the chairman of GIDA, presided over the meeting. The others who took part in the meeting included the Minister for Local Self-Government, Cherkalam Abdulla, the Minister for Revenue, K.M. Mani, and the Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled and Backward Communities, M.A. Kuttappan.
