BANGALORE, JUNE 5. Nayaz (38), the fish merchant who was kidnapped from Kaverinagar in Banashankari on Thursday, was released by his abductors at Belgaum on Friday night after realising it to be a case of mistaken identity. Police said a group of seven persons, who allegedly kidnapped Nayaz in a Toyota Qualis van, relieved him of Rs. 18,500 in cash. They reportedly wanted to kidnap another person but ended up kidnapping Nayaz. He was in possession of Rs. 20,000 but the abductors let him retain Rs. 1,500 for his "travel expenses." He called up his home last night from Belgaum and informed that he would reach the city today. But he was admitted to a hospital in Tumkur. Traffic disrupted: A tree that fell on Seshadri Road this evening caused traffic disruption for over half an hour. The fire services personnel cleared the road, the police said. Two killed in accidents: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents on Mahadevapura Ring Road on Friday. Nataraj (18) of Devasandra was killed on the spot after a lorry hit his bicycle. In the other incident, Uday (30), a native of Kundapur in Dakshina Kannada district, was seriously injured after the mortorcycle he was riding was knocked down by a lorry. He died on the way to hospital. The K.R. Puram police have seized the two lorries and arrested the drivers. Vehicle recovered: The Ulsoor police on Thursday arrested two persons on charges of stealing vehicles and recovered from them a multiutility vehicle worth Rs.1.50 lakh. Sanjeev Kumar (37) of Delhi and Shaji (42) of Mumbai, had allegedly stolen the vehicle from Mahim police station limits in Mumbai, police said. Jewellery recovered: The Basaveshwaranagar police on Thursday arrested Manjunath (27) of Doddabidarukallu and recovered from him gold ornaments estimated at Rs.55,000. The accused allegedly stole the ornaments from five houses in Basaveshwaranagar police station limits, police said. Woman robbed: A case of a man allegedly threatening his sister and relieving her of Rs. 4.8 lakh in cash in association with his wife and another woman about six months ago, has come to light now. According to police, Jayalakshmi of Rajajainagar II Block, had revealed this to her husband, Ramaswamy, a retired Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department, only a couple of days ago. On December 3, her brother, Sanjivmurthy, his wife, Kamalamma and another woman identified as Lalitha allegedly threatened Jayalakshmi of burning her house if she failed to give the money. She had obliged and they had reportedly escaped with the money, police said.
