BANGALORE, JUNE 5. These children have really extended families and share their mother. The happy children of the SOS Children's Village were in for more fun on Saturday as SOS teamed up with Eco-Watch, the Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development, to observe World Environment Day with a series of events beginning Friday. The children had fun when events were held at the Kanteerava Stadium. They helped the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and environmentalist-film maker Suresh Heblikar, who is also a patron of Eco-Watch plant saplings. This was followed by the children staging a play, directed and prompted by theatre personality Arundhati Raja. Then there were a series of contests including a quiz, a debate on the theme: `Is Bangalore a Green City?' and a painting competition on the death of lakes. Students from several schools in the city participated in the competitions. The Forest Department had created a simulated forest in the stadium to show the children how the ecological chain worked.
