Declines comment

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 6. The former Army Chief, V.P. Malik, who was at the helm during the Kargil war, today declined comment on reported shortcomings and delay in air strikes during the war.

``I don't want to comment on the basis of a newspaper report,'' he told PTI over phone.

``I think it would be better if you talk to Air Force people on this,'' Gen. Malik said. An in-house study of the Kargil war reportedly points to the shortcomings of the Army during `Operation Vijay' in 1999 and holds the political leadership responsible for failing to take decisive action in the war enabling Pakistan to wrest the initial advantage.
