CM orders water release from 3 reservoirs

CHENNAI,
JUNE 6.
The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, today ordered release of water from the Periyar, the Aliyar and the Papanasam reservoirs to enable farmers to undertake kuruvai cultivation.
The release from the Periyar reservoir will benefit 1,407 acres under the Vaigai irrigation system in Cumbum Valley in Theni district.
About 200 million cusecs of water is being released from the Aliyar reservoir in Coimbatore district for raising nurseries on 6,400 acres in the old ayacut area and 45 mcft for drinking purpose.
Water is released from the Papanasam reservoir to benefit 27,649 acres in the first seven channels of the Tamirabarani system in Tirunelveli district, says a release.
