By Our Staff Reporter

RAMESWARAM, JUNE 6. The house of Senthil, Communist Party of India (M) district office-bearer, came under attack last night after a clash between the cadres of CPI (M) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad .

According to police sources, a two-wheeler parked in front of Mr. Senthil's house and a mechanised boat with fish valued at Rs. 20,000 were set on fire.

Household articles, including television, were damaged. All shops and business establishments were closed.

A police team conducted a flag march. Fifteen persons, including Muniasamy, VHP district president, were arrested.

A group staged a road roko demanding their release. The supporters of Senthil also protested demanding that other persons cited in the complaint be arrested.

However, the police persuaded the groups to disperse.

The Superintendent of Police said the situation was tense, but under control.

A large number of policemen, including Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel, were posted to monitor the situation.
